Ski hire in Les Coches

At 1,450 m, Les Coches is the higher of the two villages that make up Montchavin-Les Coches: a friendly, human-scale resort surrounded by forest and a few turns from the Vanoise Express. Both our Ski Republic shops are on the shopping square, 50 m from the main car park. Here’s how to choose between Centre and Wengen, and how to plan your arrival.

A family resort in the forest

Built in the 1970s, Les Coches has kept a Savoyard feel and a size that families find reassuring. Everything revolves around a single shopping square, a few steps from the slopes and the snow front.

Like Montchavin, Les Coches holds the Famille Plus label: snow gardens, sledging areas and kids’ clubs keep younger visitors busy all season, with family events along the way. Off the pistes, the forest is made for snowshoeing, dog-sledding, cross-country skiing or guided ski touring.

The Les Coches gondola links the village with Montchavin, further down. If you’re staying in Montchavin, head to our ski hire in Montchavin page instead.

Our two ski hire shops in Les Coches

Centre and Wengen are both on the shopping square, 50 m from the main car park, so they’re close to each other. What sets them apart is which side of the square they’re on and the services they offer.

Ski Republic Les Coches Centre

Le Trompe-l’Œil building, 6 route des Jeux, on the snow-front side near the Plan Bois chairlift. Ski storage, heated boot lockers, plenty of space for hire and accessories.

Ski Republic Les Coches Wengen

At the entrance to the square, opposite the mini-market, about 100 m from the Chalets de Wengen. Just Ride and Alpissime concierge drop-off, accessories, souvenir corner.

Centre or Wengen?

Both shops hire skis, snowboards and boots for the whole family, with a workshop on site. This table should help you decide.

Your gateway to Paradiski

From Les Coches, the pistes take you into the La Plagne sectors, roughly 225 km of runs. The village is also one of the closest to the Vanoise Express, the cable car linking La Plagne with Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs. With a Paradiski pass that opens up around 425 km of pistes, including scenic runs such as the Aiguille Rouge, terrain parks and freestyle zones.

Before you cross over, make sure your lift pass covers Paradiski. Our guide to the Montchavin-Les Coches ski area explains the links.

What you can hire in Les Coches

Centre and Wengen hire the same kind of kit; only the extra services differ. Everything is looked after all season, and the team will help you choose for your level and the snow on the day. To prepare, read our guide to choosing skis for your level.

First turns and little skiers

Les Coches looks after beginners with snow gardens and beginner areas; the tourist office and ESF Montchavin-Les Coches, our ski school partner (see our partners), can tell you where and when.

With kids, we take our time over boot fitting and binding set-up. The foot scanner is at our Montchavin shops; in Les Coches the team fits boots with you, with a proper try-on. See our tips on kids’ ski hire.

After skiing

The shopping square is the heart of the village: it’s where you do the food shop, grab a hot chocolate and pop back into the shop to get a binding tweaked. For a warm end to the day, the Espace Paradisio pool and spa complex in Montchavin-Les Coches goes down well with parents and kids alike. And on clear evenings, the forest around the village is perfect for a short snowshoe walk.

During your stay

Sam Rochet and Géraldine have been kitting out skiers in Montchavin-Les Coches for more than 25 years. In Les Coches as in Montchavin, we’ll advise you on your level, your plans and the day’s snow.
