In snowboarding, the ideal board depends on your weight, your boot size and how you ride. Too long and it’s hard to turn; too narrow for your feet and your toes drag in the snow mid-turn. That’s why we take the time to listen before we choose.

New to it? A soft board makes the first few days far more enjoyable. Already confident? We’ll steer you towards something stiffer and more precise, built for the piste, the park or fresh snow, depending on what you’re after.

Good to knowNot sure whether you’re regular or goofy? No problem: we’ll work it out together in the shop in a few seconds.

Snowboard boots are softer than ski boots, but the wrong size is still the quickest route to a miserable week. In our equipped shops the 3D foot scan measures your feet in seconds, with no contact. We then choose the size and model and check the lacing with you.

Fancy mixing skiing and snowboarding during the week? Ski Republic’s Multiglisse service lets you switch things up, and Flexski adds flexibility to your hire. The terms for both are shown when you book, and our team will run through them at the counter.

Book a few lessons to begin with: you’ll learn how to fall and get up again without hurting yourself. Our partner, ESF Montchavin-Les Coches, teaches snowboarding too.
Look after your wrists: they take the first falls. Well-padded gloves help a lot.
Stick to beginner areas and wide, even runs for the first few days.
Waterproof trousers are a must: on a board you spend a fair bit of time sitting in the snow.

Are boots included?

It depends on the pack. You can hire the board on its own or as a pack with boots and a helmet: what each option includes is shown when you book online and confirmed by our team when you collect.

How do I know if I’m regular or goofy?

If you naturally lead with your left foot, you’re regular; right foot forward, you’re goofy. In the shop we do a quick test and set your bindings accordingly, and you can always come back to tweak them.

Can I switch between skiing and snowboarding during the week?

Yes, that’s what Ski Republic’s Multiglisse service is for, depending on what you’ve booked. The terms are shown when you book; ask us at the counter if you’re unsure.

Is snowboarding harder than skiing for beginners?

The first two or three days on a board tend to be more physical, with a few falls. After that, progress is often quick. A few lessons and a soft board make a real difference.
