Kids’ skis
Little skiers are our favourite customers. First slides in the snow garden, lessons with the ski school or a family week on the slopes of Montchavin-Les Coches: we take the time to kit out every child properly, with skis the right length, warm, comfortable boots and a helmet that fits snugly.

Who it’s for
A well-equipped child learns faster and, above all, has fun. Skis that are too long, or boots a size up “so they’ll grow into them”, are the two most common mistakes: every turn becomes hard work, and it often ends in tears by eleven o’clock.
In the shop we measure each child’s height and foot size, take their weight and ability into account and set the bindings to match. It’s all done with a smile: children try their boots on, walk around in them, and we only sign off once they’re comfortable.
Rule of thumb
For a beginner, the ski usually comes up somewhere between the chest and the chin; for a more confident child, between the chin and the nose. Weight matters too: a light child will be happier on a slightly shorter ski. The table below gives rough guidance only; the final size is always chosen with you in the shop.
| Child’s height | Beginner ski (guide) | Confident ski (guide) |
|---|---|---|
| 90 to 100 cm | 60 to 70 cm | 70 to 80 cm |
| 100 to 110 cm | 70 to 80 cm | 80 to 90 cm |
| 110 to 120 cm | 80 to 90 cm | 90 to 100 cm |
| 120 to 130 cm | 90 to 100 cm | 100 to 110 cm |
| 130 to 140 cm | 100 to 110 cm | 110 to 120 cm |
| 140 to 150 cm | 110 to 120 cm | 120 to 130 cm |
| 150 cm and over | about 15 cm below height | about 10 cm below height |
Good to knowThese lengths are general guidance, not a rule. The model, your child’s weight and their ability all change the ideal size, so our team always fine-tunes the choice at the counter.
The pack
Well-fitted boots
Children rarely tell you a boot is too big, and they can’t always explain where it pinches. The 3D foot scan, available in our equipped shops, measures both feet in seconds, with no contact and socks on. It’s quick, kids love it, and we get the right size first time.
Tips from parents… and from us
You can book parents and children together on the Ski Republic website, at the shop of your choice. It’s all explained on our booking page; to find the shop nearest your apartment or chalet, see our Montchavin shops and our Les Coches shops. For the grown-ups, there’s adult ski hire, plus our guide on choosing skis by level.
